Alanna: The First Adventure

Title: Alanna: The First Adventure
Author: Tamora Pierce
Genre: YA Fantasy
Page Count: 216
Why I read it: wanted to try the author
Grade: B+

Synopsis:
Alan of Trebond, the best warrior in the palace, is harboring a big secret: he is really a she--Alanna. But when her prince is felled by an illness, Alanna has no choice but to use her healing magic--even if it means ruining her career.

My review:
I had never read anything by Tamora Pierce before, and as a fantasy lover, I felt like it was time, since she's one of the more popular fantasy writers.  After reading this one, I can say that I will definitely continue reading this author.

This was a really short book, and it didn't take me very long at all to read it, but I really enjoyed the story.  It was fun, and I think it's one of those that years later I'll remember bits and pieces from it, and try to remember what book that was.  Does that happen to any other readers?

The characters were well done, and I really liked Alanna.  She was a great character that you want to root for.  The secondary characters were interesting and not one-dimensional like I've read in other YA fantasy.  There was a lot going on here in this little book, and I'm excited to read more to see what other things are in store for Alanna, and if she can keep her secret.

I would recommend this to fans of fantasy, if there are any out there besides me who've never read it.  It's a quick, easy read, so it's definitely worth a try!

Wonderful to see someone read it for the first time. Yeah, the first one is fun. The next one is even better. ;-)

I've heard so many great things about Tamora Pierce, and love that she writes books about kickass females. I shall totally check out her books soon.

Oh, that remembering bits and pieces of books years later definitely happens to me all the time.

I absolutely love Tamora Pierce. She's always who I list as my favorite author. I think the weakest series was the Protector of the Small series. I highly reccommend the Immortals Quartet after you finish the Lioness Quartet.

I'll definitely be checking out more of her books. I've already got the second in the Alanna series from the library, if I can get to it through my big stack of books.
