January Reading Summary

I'm a bit late with the summary for last month, but I'm trying to make a goal this year to write wrap up posts for each month.  It's always nice to look back and see a quick summary.

So, for January I finished 20 books:
  1. Fire by Kristin Cashore
  2. The Maze Runner by James Dashner
  3. Y: The Last Man - Unmanned by Brian K. Vaughan
  4. Captain America: The Man With No Face by Ed Brubaker
  5. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
  6. Blankets by Craig Thompson
  7. Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo by Obert Skye
  8. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
  9. The Language of Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs
  10. Y: The Last Man - Cycles by Brian K. Vaughan
  11. The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan
  12. The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
  13. Girl in the Arena by Lise Haines
  14. Comfort Living by Christine Eisner
  15. The Complete Maus by Art Spiegelman
  16. The Farwalker's Quest by Joni Sensel
  17. Captain America: Road to Reborn by Ed Brubaker
  18. Play it Again, SAHM by Meredith Efken
  19. Gone by Michael Grant
  20. Persepolis 1 by Marjane Satrapi
The best book for this month was:
I loved this book so much!  Kristin Cashore is becoming one of my very favorite authors, and I'll be reading whatever she writes.  I loved the characters and the story.  Everything about it was excellent.

The worst book this month was:
Going Bovine by Libba Bray.  This one was a DNF for me.  I've read so many good reviews from bloggers whose book judgement I trust, so I'm not sure what my problem was.  I think it was mostly that I just wasn't in the mood.  It seems like one of those books that you have to be in the right frame of mind for.

I'm noticing a trend of a lot of YA books and graphic novels, which is okay since those are the ones I need to read the most of for challenges.  I'd like to get a few more longer, heavier books in, though.

October Reading Summary

These months are just flying by too fast, but I think I got a lot of great reading done in October.  This month I finished 18 books, and I read a couple of new favorites.

New favorites include:

I was really pleasantly surprised by this book.  I didn't expect it to be as good as it was, and I loved the world that R.B. Holbrook created.

Although most reviews I read said Catching Fire was the weaker of the two in the series so far, I liked it better.  There may not have been as much action, but I liked the character development and the plot movement better.  Plus, after reading the first one, I didn't feel all that inspired to read a second one.  I just didn't feel like it was a very good lead into a series (even though I did enjoy the book a lot).  With Catching Fire, I can't wait to read the next one!

There were a few other books that I really enjoyed this month:  Fablehaven, Graceling, and The Restorer's Journey.  I feel like I had a really lucky reading month.  Either that, or I was just mostly in a really good mood.

I had three DNF's this month, which is more than usual, but I've found as my TBR list grows longer and longer, I've got to give up when a book isn't drawing me in.

September Reading Summary

Since September is over (seriously, already?  what the heck?) I figured I'd do an end of the month review type thingy.

This month I read fifteen books.  About half of the books were young adult, which is probably why I was able to read so many.  I really only read one heavier book, which was the science fiction novel, Barrayar, and that one took me the longest to read, I think.

My favorite book this month was:

The start of my favorite series ever, with engaging characters and a fun story.  Plus, there's lots of cooking with recipes and everything!  You can't beat that.  To top it off, Sandra Byrd is an incredibly sweet person.

My least favorite book of the month was:

I've followed this whole series so far, and I think I'm just over it.  It's not funny anymore, and there seems to be no character growth whatsoever.  I'll still probably read the rest of the series when more books come out, because I'm a glutton for punishment.  But if you haven't started this series, maybe don't.

How about you?  What were your best and worst reads this month?
